Thank you for telling her story, Usha. It is so important to be the voice of people who have limited range. May we share many such histories of hope and heroism on this page in the months to come.

yes, history becomes stories of privelaged lot. I remember my first histroy classes at school. It was about 'rani chennamma' and some women like her, who faught 'just like men'...as if other women who lives during those times where not doing anything worth while to talk about. Women are not seen as people who influence and get influnced by various things that happen around them, they are not seen as peole who' make ' history. No wonder Siddamma will be comfortably forgotten, no matter how much yarakana gadde poodu people fondly remember her.......

This is a lovely story, Usha. It's true that the lives of so-called 'ordinary' women are often forgotten, their memories mislaid, their histories obliterated. It's nice that some efforts are being made to document Siddamma's knowledge. It would also be helpful if the organization spread this knowledge far and wide.

these are truly our unsung heroes. the challenge is to really use our indigenous knowledge well in present times. lack of documentation probably has been one of the reasons these skills are dying out, since in our oral tradition, knowledge passes out with the death of the giver unless there is someone to take it...
