It never ceases to amaze and amuse me when people start feeling the 'burden' of political correctness. Oh you poor things! I want to say to them and giggle.

Hopefully I'll get around to the IPL post soon. It's been on my mind since the IPL began.

'Neither am I going to go into structure of the IPL itself and its relationship with women (because that would deserve a post by itself).'

Please write this post. It's about time.

Also. 'Daring to be politically incorrect'? Like it's a good thing? People should really try to unpack what they're saying. 'Daring to be sexist'. 'What a brave position to take in our society.

Looking back, most of our school days have been littered with such messages drilled into our little minds.

I remember that our Phy.Ed teacher did not let me wear shorts while I was competing in a badminton tournament because god forbid if some boys cast their eyes on me and could not help themselves!

I know of another classmate whose mother would always buy her bras a couple of sizes small to 'hide' her breasts while she attended school.

And ofcourse, last but not the least, the all famous thorn analogy.

I did not realize the damage all this had done until I did some thinking and realized that it took me some time to realize that women could actually enjoy having sex.

"CLOTHING HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CHASTITY." And even if it does, so what?

We've all been through this to some extent or another, depending on how far we transgressed the unwritten rule. I'm wondering why we don't write to these schools and give them a piece of our minds as adults. I guess because they wouldn't get it.

Brilliantly made movie and in no instance it was seen to be a fictious movie, as it was so close to reality. I feel the credit must go to the director and the lead actress in the movie.
It is very disheartening to see any women in that situation but the worst thing is, it happens everyday!

The thorn analogy made me laugh out loud! That line wouldn't be out of place in one of those 70s/80s Tamil movies which almost always seemed to feature a rape scene.

In my boarding school, they would stick their fingers between our shirt buttons to check for a chemise, as we left the dorm in the morning. So we would take a sock, tuck the top of it into our bra and the bottom into our skirt so when she would stick her fingers in, she would feel the same cotton material as a chemise. Once we are past her, the sock would come out.

Dear Uzma,

Guess Goa is going the way of the rest. Sorry to hear about it, though not too surprised. My three year experience comes from living in rural Goa. In fact it is called ranga panchami and not all villages observe it on the same day. People in cars do get stopped sometimes, but one can usually wave away the revellers. But I suppose I got carried away by its mildness in contrast.

Totally agree- "Women dare not step out into streets in many north Indian cities on the morning of the festival. Otherwise they are “asking for it”."

Living in Delhi all through I can say Holi for men is a social sanction to behave in any manner. Typically Holi would mean openly consume alcohol, tease and harass women, carry balloons- go around colonies in small gangs on scooters/bikes and hit women at their chests and thereafter ceremoniously enjoy this sport. Well ofcourse, any protest against such behaviour is baseless and countered by "bura na mano holi hai". All women in Delhi will have their stories of Holi bruises when the sharp shooters practice balloon throwing at us and we in return are supposed to graciously bow and say- good shot!
